Multi-Stage
Challenge
The 8 Bridges multi-stage challenge can be attempted in a number of ways. On the completion of a Double (1 or 2 stages), Upstate (4 stages), Downstate (3 stages) or Odyssey (all stages) grouping, swimmers will receive 8 Bridges merchandise. The groupings are:
Double: Stages 1–2 or 3–4 or 6–7
Upstate: Stages 1 –4
Downstate: Stages 5–7
Odyssey: Stages 1 – 7
Fees & Deadlines
Stages 1 to 6 = $750 solo per stage, $1,350 two-person relay per stage.
* Subtract $100 per stage if you provide your own kayaker and kayak. Your kayaker must be declared at time of enrollment and must be approved by the race director.Stage 7 = $1,350 solo per stage, $1,350 two person relay per stage.  Each swimmer will have their own escort boat which increases the cost of this stage.
** Subtract $100 per stage if you provide your own kayaker and kayak. Onlykayakers with prior New York Harbor swimmer escort experience will be approved. Your kayaker must be declared at time of enrollment and must be approved by the race directors. Additional discounts of $50 for two stages, $100 for three or four stages and $500 for seven stages are provided if you take one of the following multi-stage challenges:
Double: Stages 1–2 or 3–4 or 5–6 = $1450 for solos, $2650 for relays
Upstate: Stages 1 –4 = $2900 for solos, $5300 for relays
Downstate: Stages 5–7 = $2750 for solos, $3950 for relays
Odyssey: Stages 1 – 7 = $5500 for solos, $8950 for relays
The entry fee covers the cost of an experienced escort kayaker and safety boat support. Upon acceptance to 8 Bridges a non-refundable %25 deposit is required.
Full payment is due by May 1, 2017
Prices increase by $100 per stage on April 15, 2017
Relays 2-person relays can be swum in the following formats:
+ Casual: swimmers can change out as desired.
+ Official: each relay member will swim 60 minute legs. Relay teams that are swimming all seven stages must alternate the lead swimmer daily.
Withdrawal Policy Swimmers who withdraw before May 1 will receive a refund on their entry fee minus their 25% registration deposit.
Age Limit Swimmers must be 18 years or older. Exceptions for younger swimmers will be made on a case by case basis.
Merchandise On the completion of a Double, Upstate, Downstate or Odyssey grouping of stages, swimmers will receive 8 Bridges merchandise.
Qualifying Swim There is no qualifying swim requirement. Acceptance to 8 Bridges will be based on a review of your swimming résumé.
Awards Awards for the top finishers in each stage are provided by Scenic Hudson.
Goodies A commemorative event shirt, generous goodie bag, and pre- and post-race refreshments are provided.
Escort Kayaker Each swimmer will be accompanied by an experienced escort kayaker at all times. The kayaker will provide navigation and feeds and is in direct contact with nearby safety boats via marine radio.
Shuttle Bus 8 Bridges  provides a shuttle bus from the event finish location to the event start location each morning prior to the start of Stages 1, 2, 5 and 6.
Fundraising Policy  You are welcome to raise funds for a cause when you swim 20 Bridges as long as you abide by the following guidelines.* The organization you are raising funds for must be a registered charity or not for profit organization.
* This organization can not represent a religious or political cause.
* All proceeds must go to the charity you are fundraising for. You can not fund your swim through your fundraising efforts.
Rules of Marathon Swimming 8 Bridges follows the rules of marathon swimming set by the Marathon Swimmers Federation.
